First show...please critique
Okay so I am gonna TOTALLY throw myself to the wolves. This is Forrest's and my first show. We only did pleasure since it was a good first intro. I know nothing of his show experience or even if he has been. I went just to let him see and hear things. But he relaxed so well I decided to ride him a bit to see how he reacted. He took it very well so I decided to enter in the pleasure class and took it a class at a time. Other than looking everywhere at everything he was a very good boy for his first time.

I look horrible in the videos ie heel not down, hunched back, bad release. I was so focused on him and getting him to pay attention that I forgot about myself. But then again it was all about him this time.

What do you think? He is starting to get back into shape so he is limited in what he can do. But please feel free to comment

Sorry its facebook, but I made it a public video so everyone should be able to see it!

Very nice for the first time! Obviously his headset needs wprk (especially at the walk) but it looked like he was just so excited by all the commotion he wasn't focusing enough to collect. His trot was beautiful when he calmed down and rounded up, nicely forward! He has such a pretty high head-set, have you thought of doing dressage with him? The transition from canter to walk was rough, but again he just looked like he was really excited by everything. All in all, I think he'll be FANTASTIC as shows once he's been to some more and calms down at them.

P.S.
To whoever is was talking in the video, I also call my horse a pony, even though he's giant and built like a line-backer.

Thanks so much! That is only 3 weeks in work from a time off so we are rusty at the canter. But he was being good I figured it was worth a shot. The w-t-c was the only class we placed in..so I guess the judge really liked the canter! He was looking at EVERYTHING but Im very proud for his first time. We will try again May 22nd with hopefully a better turnout!

ps...my 17H Irish TB build like a WB is a pony too! :)

for your first show.... its PHENOMENAL. is there something wrong with his right front leg? he lifts it up WAY higher that the left. anyway, at the trot, try not to stuff your hands underneath you so much. shorten your reins just a tad, and stretch your arms out in front of you. if he gets quick, turn his nose in lightly and steadily. keep it there. with your outside rein, squeese and release, while holding your shoulders back and down. at the canter, same thing. everything i just said, apply it to the canter. overall, you just look so cramped and tense and nervous. think about stretching every part of your body out. and r-e-l-a-x.

aside from that, that is absolutely fabulous for it being your first show with him.
