    Fun Show Critique

This is from a little schooling show the past weekend. We did very well, but I picked apart everything and want you to do the same!

I have no idea what is going on with my lower back...I need to fill that and be softer. I'm jumping up his neck in the jumping pictures. Also, my hands look...upside down(?) in a lot of the pictures. They weren't so I'm not sure why they look so wonky.

Oh, and this is my lovely little lease horse Sunny. He's around 20 and puts up with all my crap.

    Anyway. Constructive Criticism, Ahoy!

(Cant stand that picture but I put it up anyway. I look like I'm trying to leap over his ears)

(Butt is way out of the saddle...no idea what was going on here.)

    Thank youuuu! <3

Ooh...and get my hands out of my panties and start releasing...that would probably be beneficial...

I think you hit a lot of your own faults but it does seem to me in every picture but one, that you are REALLY into his mouth, but it looks like he puts up with it well.

Yeah, Cinny, I feel the same way (even while riding). Everytime I get on, my instructor is telling me to shorten the reins till they're about that length though... It looked to short to me (and feels the same way) so... maybe there is some hole in our communication or something? Hmm

I ride with my hands in my lap too. I have a show on Saturday and have been working so hard on keeping them forward. I'm going to tie a white rubber band around a piece of his mane in the right spot to remind me to keep them there this time! Nice pics. Your horse looks very sweet.

Elbows in!! You look like you're trying to take flight!
You really need to work relentlessly, every day, on and off the horse, to keep your elbows physically on your hips. It takes a while to develop the muscles, but our elbows should be able to touch our hips and when we're riding, they should except over fences when they come FORWARD (read - not out), over the fences as a release. WHat the hand does is a symptom of what the elbow does - fix the elbow and the hand will follow.

    Good luck!

Haha thanks so much Anabel! I have such a hard time with my arms...I guess I must have been a chicken in a past life... I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out!
