I think the horse would say "Easy on my mouth!"

You need to put his stirrups down he seems pretty tall. Id put them down 1-2 holes maybe.
You seem like you know what your doing. :) cute horse. Easy on the mouth seems to be pulling to much on his mouth. He needs to post not sit..
So help him learn to post.

Thanks!, it's hard because he doesn't know what it should feel like and the saddle is small so it's hard to judge

You can sorta tell where his leg position should be based on pictures of yourself and other riders. You can see the angle of your leg and his should be similar. I agree that they probably need to go down 2 holes or so.

Haha, good job for his first trot! I wish my BF was interested in learning a bit about horses, but then I guess I am not really interested in gaming and he is. :P

you and me both my dad reallllly dislikes my boyfriend cause he's a complete townie,
Horsexquad, is your bf interested or did you convince him some way if so what tips do you have haha :P also not bad for his first time trotting :) sometimes we tell the kids if they wanna learn to trot but aren't sure about holding the reins as well to hold on to the saddled to help themselves do the rising trot

Take his reins away when he's on the longe! Do you have a schoolie and a saddle that would fit your BF better? It's hard to learn to ride properly when you don't have equipment that fits.

Good luck with teaching him to ride. Many of my sessions teaching my husband (and I coached professionally for years) ended badly - usually with me telling him to "get off the f*cking horse".
