    Herbie progress?

Can you critique his progress in terms of weight and muscling?
He is a 9 year old Thoroughbred and I've had him for almost exactly a year.

Two months after we brought him home

It's a little hard to see... He's gotten really dark. It was taken today (he was clipped yesterday so he isn't that shiny)

I think he is looking wonderful compared to the last picture. Good job on getting his weight up. I always get my horses a little pudgy for the winter. He looks good though. Since he is s thoroughbred, I would keep trying for more weight unless he is an easy keeper. I had a thoroughbred that would drop weight drastically in the winter.

He isn't an easy keeper, buć he isn't hard to keep weight on. We usually put him on a little beet pulp during the winter and that helps maintain his weight.

What do I still need to improve on?

He has training braids in the last photo so his mane looks a lot neater. We are getting ready for a pretty big show this weekend.

It is hard to see his 'defined muscling because he is a darker. I think he looks wonderful. Beet pulp works good in the winter. I have also found that Cool Calories 100 works good too. What show are you taking him to? What discipline do you ride?

I do hunter/jumper and we are going to the Washington International Show (local weekend). It's big in size, but it isn't really rated, still everyone around my area goes.

These might not be better (since he is moving and has a saddle, but you can see him better).

He was a little bothered by the water from the sprinklers. LOL, it kept hitting him and he was terribly confused.

I think he looks great. Good luck. I have always been a sucker for a black horse since I saw Return to Snowy River.
