Hunter Pony Mare

Can you tell me how she looks? Thanks :)

I also kinda want to know how much she could sell for? or how much you'd be willing to pay for her, if that's what you were looking for.

She's a 14.2hh 9yo half saddlebred mare who is getting back into work. Because of financial difficulties I'm forced to sell her :( I've had her for 5 years and bought her as a green 4yo who'd only been jumping for about a month or so. So, most of her jumping training has been done with me. She's gotten multiple championships in Hunter Pony classes and has been a very reliable equitation mount. She's shown 2'6"/2'9" but has schooled 3'. Also has been schooled XC and ridden second flight on a fox hunt. Pretty bombproof, reliable on trails: crosses bridges, water, ditches, logs, etc. Goes out alone or in a group and is comfortable and controllable leading or following. Has shown dressage up to training 4 with all firsts and seconds. Has little western training and knows how to neckrein, only shown twice in western pleasure but won both classes. Has had basic driving prep done, but never been hitched. Has automatic changes, rides in a snaffle, has good brakes, no vices. Wears front shoes, never been lame or sick, ever. Has been barefoot all her life until this july, and only got shoes because we were jumping higher and riding on the road a lot.

Were the shows rated or schooling shows? Local hunter series?

She's shown at Lexington Horse Center in Lexington VA at the state championship 4h show, at HITS at Commonwealth Park in Culpeper VA (rated) and the rest are local and countywide shows. And yea local hunter series.

I would say that she would sell in the $4 - 7K range. Her best market is as a 4H or Pony Club all arounder or local show horse.

She looks to be a solid citizen and something I would want in my barn, however, she isn't typey or fancy enough to truly be competitive in rated shows (I'm sure she CAN show rated and put in respectable trips, but there's a difference between that and being competitive.) and that is what really increases price.

You also mention that "she is coming back into work", and that's a concern.

You will get more money for her if she is fit and show ready, but I understand that may not be possible.

Good luck selling her, whoever gets her will be lucky to have her.

I have to agree with Maura. I have one additional question.

Does she have a permanent pony card?

Great question, can't believe I didn't ask.

Permanent card would be a selling asset.

Yes, even for those doing not rated shows a permanent card would make all the difference. With her height being so borderline having her card would make her far easier to sell.

Yea she got her permanent pony card her 5 year old year. By getting back into work, I mean she's only recently started showing again, she's in absolute tip top shape as it is. And she acted like a pro last show. I'm hoping for a 4h-er or pony clubber to buy her.. I'd even be happy to sell her to a trail rider... Not that I'd prefer that over someone who'd show her so long as she's well cared for and happy I'll be happy.

As to the typey-fancy thing, yea I know. haha

I have a question, should I include that she could be registered a half saddlebred in ASHA? Her saddlebred lines go all the way back to the Darley and Godolphin arabian... haha

Generally I would say that being half saddlebred is not a positive point to most hunter people.

If you think there is a market for her being a jumping saddlebred outside the hunter world that her impressive lines will be a benefit to maybe make two ads. One ad for the hunter people, one ad for the saddlebred people.
