Hunter Under Saddle

Hi guys!

If you could critique my four year old APHA mare, Ultimate Showoff, that would be wonderful! I have had her since she was two with 45 days on her. I have been doing all the training on her up till Sept, when I went off to MN for an internship. She would go over to my trainers one day a week to get ridden.

So this video is from early March when we went to PPHC Spring Warm-Up 4 judge show, our second show of the season.

So let me know what you guys think about her and about my riding. I'm going to be doing the EQ (not on her tho, WAY too bouncy to be a good EQ horse. Feels like I'm riding a pogo stick, lol) and we have started her over fences just in the last few weeks. And since this video I have started to work on my EQ, cause it sucks, and have shortened my sturrips two holes and it has made a huge difference.

Here is the video:

I absolutely love her trot. She seems so purposeful when she trots! I think she is doing wonderful for a 4 year old.

Yous with your quarter horses/paints in the hunter ring, beat me everytime. At the one local fun show we like to show at, a lot of the time there are people with their paint horses that show at the national level! I never can beat them!, they are like robots, I always place right after them in every class, its so fustrating, they shouldnt be showing at local fun shows when they compete at the national level. I just had to say that...your horse does look very good, like the horses that beat us all the time hehe, her trot does look nice and no 4 beating canter! I can't stand to see horses 4beat at the canter, english or western, it should never place in my mind...but your canter didnt look like it was 4 beaty so that's good. The only thing I would suggest is not posting so high, try not to come out of the saddle as high when you post, I know it might be hard if your horse has a bouncy trot, but its something to work on. But overall yous look good =)
Just when you start showing at the national level...dont go to local fun shows just for some more blue ribbons! Hehe

Haha, Don't worry. I haven't taken this horse to an open show yet (and we've had her two years) and I don't plan on showing her at one. But if I do, I wouldn't show in events we are good at. That's just mean and rude to the other people who show there.

Thanks for your input! We are going to the World show this year and I want to make sure that everything is as good as it can get!

Wow, your mare is a gorgeous mover! I saw a couple things with your riding. 1) Like dressagegirl said your posting is a little too exaggerated. You want to just bounce forward a little out of the saddle and back down. It's challenging when you have a super bouncy horse, but if you can work on controlling it that would be good (great ab workout too!). 2) I noticed you have a tendency for your shoulders to get behind your hips especially at the canter. In an equitation class that's a big no-no. If anything you want your shoulders slightly in front of your hips, sitting with your pelvis rotated slightly forward so that you're not sitting directly on your seat bones.

Other than that you two look wonderful! Your leg and hands are nice and quiet, although you might want to ride with them a tiny bit closer together and more forward for the eq class.
