Input needed *lots of pictures*

So I need your expert opinions. A friend of mine has come across this mare. She is 5 years old, a tb cross (possibly warmblood in there), she is not papered. We no idea what her history is or where she came from.

This mare is completely sound, healthy. No neurological problems whatsoever.

Here is my issue. She has this bump on her head. I know some warmbloods have it, it's perfectly normal. Now the current owners(who refuse to give us any info), deny any injury to this mare while in their ownership(she is for sale). I am convinced that this mare must have had a past fracture from a accident. This mare is very head shy as well (which is another thing that makes me think it might have been a accident).

Anyways here are some pictures. Take a look and let me know what you think. I have permission from the possible new buyers to post the pictures. We are all stumped as to what this might be and want to figure it out.

I would suspect a head injury if she is head shy and there is hairloss in the middle of that bump which could be a scar from the injury, if I was they buyers I would go there and ask they to put a halter on her, and she how they handle it...

Looks like she's broken that part of her face at some point. Personally I'd be staying away from her if I didn't know how she'd done it and if she's really headshy as well it could still be hurting her. Definitely get a vetcheck on her if they do want to buy her.

She's got a couple of bald areas in the general area of the bump, so I would definitely suspect some kind of injury at some point. It could have been prior to her current owners, which would be why they don't know about it. If she's been shifted around, it could be the reason for it has been lost somewhere down the line.

I would go check her out, thoroughly check out her movement (to rule out any neurological issues), attitude, etc; and definitely get a vet check.

I'd tell them to get an xray of her skull just to make sure it is nothing serious.

To me it looks like she might have a fracture. The general location of it would make me pass her by w/o exrays and a good neuro workup, the swelling could put pressure on her nerves, sinuses, and could cause vision problems as well.

Would the owners be willing to offer a vet workup with exrays?

If she is headshy after this long(ANY idea when it could have happened??) she might have nerve problems or sinus pain as a result of it, id be really careful, it could affect her riding career, and if they buy hey and find that out the hard way it could be realllly difficult to resell her... just my opinion on the situation, I personally would never want to buy an injured/disfigured horse with an all clear from the vet first and a riding trial just to see how she does...

I'm pretty sure she's got frontal bone misalignment which is normally caused from any injury, or sometimes occurs from birth.

I think if the Mare is head shy, then she must have had an accident. And if the owners refuse to give you information that might be becuase they don't want to let you know about the head unjury. But you could get her checked by the vet..it's the best thing to do at this point

Defiantely a vet check. I didn't get one on my last horse (stupid me) and now we're paying the price.
