Okay so this photo is a little old only by 2 months but I would still like people to critique. Please be nice! This was only my.. Hm. I think 3rd time jumping in 6 years. So tell me what you think!
Your release could be a bit better. It looks, from the picture, that your almost planting your hands on your horse's neck. I would suggest sortening your reins and to move your hand father up the horse neck.
You look pretty solid with your leg and and seat but instead of pushing all your weight into your hands on your horses neck use your stomach muscles and base to hold you while you release. Don't plant your hands.
I think your release looks ok for this jump height, and since your reins are long you aren't getting in the way of your horse. I wouldn't make jumping like a habit though. Try to practice with a shorter rein and slide your hands up his neck over the jump. That way when the jumps are higher you will be used to moving with the horse. I think your seat looks great you are right with your horse and not too far ahead or behind.
One thing though about your feet, I think your toe should point out just a tad more, that way you won't grip with your knee as much and your heal can come down more. Try raising your stirrups a hole or 2 so you get a nice bend in your knee.
Another thing...I can't tell if you are wearing half chaps or tall boots, but if they are tall boots, they look a little too short for your leg.
All in all you look really good. Just some minor tweaks.
You have a really good overall look, but in my opinion, I think you may be 2-pointing a bit too much for just an x. Does anybody else thin this? Correct me if I am wrong!
I kind of agree, I think she looks a little "posey" but I think it's good to learn to have a perfect form over cross rails before progressing to anything higher. When she jumps higher she will have a really nice form, and be more confident
I can’t get over the number of times that people suggest NOT pressing your hands into the neck when, at this level, pressing your hands into the neck is exactly what you should be doing.
This is an OK release for this size of jump. I don’t mind the long versus short release for a jump of this size and a rider of this level. I’d prefer not so much loop in the rein, but it’s better than the alternative.
The rider does look a little stiff/posed… relax, have fun… you have an excellent foundation already.
I think you look pretty good at this height. I agree with not making the release a habit. I had that type of release & it took me months to finally get it right.
I think you are pushing your shoulders back to far though. Relax them. I allow my shoulders to drop a bit while going over the jump, it helps with raising my hands up on my horse's neck and allowing a better release.
I agree with kelley horsemad, you have a excellent foundation !
good luck in your future jumping!
