So I rode him for half an hour yesterday, and this is what I discovered haha. He was very sweet, and for riding, he was good. He's got a great huge canter, which I love, but he swaps leads a lot when he's not supposed to because he is out of shape. He is HUUUGEEE which I also love, and he jumps big and far away from the jump and he is pretty noticebly out of shape, he's pretty sloppy.
So would I get better by getting him into shape or would I just be wasting my time?
I am riding him in my lesson with my trainer on Thursday and getting her opinion, but I want to hear you guys' opinion too. Help?
If you enjoyed riding him and he is sound, then I think you should give it a shot. He will definitely be better when he is fit but I would definitely get him in shape on the flat before jumping him any more. As I saw on someone's signature here "No time spent in the saddle is wasted". If he is a nice riding horse and you like him, isn't that really all that matters? He may need a little work on the leads and jumping early but not much from the sound of it. Let us know what your trainer says. :)
