His story: His original owner was an older guy with a ranch. He had just started him on roping. And then he died. =( His wife wasn't a horse person, so didn't really know how to take care of the horses at all, so she gave them to some friends, the couple I got him from.
They never rode him, so he has just been standing in a corral for 4 years, doing nothing but eating and pooping. They didn't even have a turn out. The guy told me that he was just going to send him to his trainer for 30 days and then sell him for $1200, but he let me take him as is on $300.
He is a 12 year old, 16hh QH gelding. Registered, papers are somewhere with the family of the previous owner. I'm not too worried about it cause he is a gelding, but they are going to try to find them for me.. I love his color!! He has no white on him, but he has alot of black on his body, making him look sooty.
They brought him to me today, he was squished into this tiny, really old straight load trailer. The poor thing was all sweaty. The guy told me that they put a saddle on him yesterday to see what he would do, and he said he hunched his back up like he was going to buck, but didn't. I don't think they did anything with him though, just put it on and then took it off.
I let him settle in for a while while I went to the DMV (ugh.). Three hours later came back and he seemed comfortable. I gave him a good brushing. Then I picked his hooves and was horrified to find a nail in his back right hoof. It was about 5 inches long when pulled out, about 3 inches was in his foot. It started oozing watery blood when I went to take it out. I got my boyfriend to pull it out, and it didn't bleed after that. Any suggestions for that? I hope he doesn't turn up lame. Anyway, I got way off topic.
Just wanted to see what people think of him. I will be putting a saddle on him tomorrow and see what he does. The video is from the other day when I went to look at him. Thanks everyone!
(They called him Dunny, but I'm calling him Outlaw.)
