Possible FFA project...

I'm in equine science, horse judging, and livestock showing in FFA and agricultural education. There's this competition in my state for a schalrship/award for horse sciences. My instructor suggested that for my entree in that project would be to get a young horse to train, and that if I could pull it off, I might possibly be the winner. And he can help/give me ideas. I have retrained/worked with problem horses before, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal. So... here is my possible project.

So what does everyone think, about the horse, and the project?

When do you plan on competing? He won't be ready to ride for at least 2 years, maybe more. Also he's still a stallion and I'm fairly certain you'll have to get him gelded in order to compete

Yeah, I was planning on gelding him. Yeah, the competition is like, next December, and even thoug I may not be able to ride by then, maybe I'll be able to do other stuff.

I'd recommend getting one who is older. I think it would do better in competition

What project is it exactly? I used to be in FFA too. If I were you I would look for something that is a little older. Preferably 2 or 3 at the oldest. By getting a two year old you can work with it for year on groundwork, teach it showmanship and even show in showmanship. Then when it is 3 break it to ride and start showing his three year old year. You will bypass several years of just showing in hand and be able to show inhand for a year and then jump to undersaddle showing.
