I'm considering this filly. (see my story here http://www.horseforum.com/horse-health/dilema-keep-sell-sorry-long-82012/ ) I'd like some input as to her conformation. What I notice off hand is her right front foot toes out, she is slightly base narrow in front, somewhat high head carriage, and her cannon bones seem very short (but I'm no expert and even less so with youngsters). She needs to be able to do small local shows, gymkhanas, western pleasure and showmanship, drill, and somewhat rigorous trail riding.

She is hanging out with me for a few days so I can get to know her. Any input would be appreciated.

I don't know much about confo. I do see that she has a really long back.
Thx for your input. I don't really see it :( ..... but that's why it's good to get outside eyes helping I guess. I don't know that it would effect her much in what I'm doing. Thanks!

Any others? Does anyone else see the high head or is it just me?

Also should point out that she is 2....

knees

She is very cute. I thought she might be a bit younger than two. She still looks a bit gangly and undeveloped. I thought she was more like 20 months.

Anyway, she does have a slightly long back. She is base narrow, as you noticed, but also, I think she is a little knock kneed. If you look at the line of her front legs, they go inward to the knee, then back out ward a little for the cannon, and there is a little outward rotation, as you also stated.
Her hind end is lovely, well angled and really good.

to be honest, her conformation is not spectacular, but totally fine for what you will be doing. IF other, more knowledgeable persons think her knees are a bit off, then maybe a life of jumping might not be her cup of tea.

She has a very sweet face and gives off a feeling of emotional fragility, like "take care of me, I need you" , which I think is endearing in a horse.

Thanks for all your input! There are a few things about her I'm not super crazy about, and I'm going to look at a couple more that are the same age and bloodlines (they came in a package deal from Pitzer). I think I would be happy if I ended up with her, but I also don't want to limit myself as a few others pointed out! I'll post up the other possibilities if I can!

Well, it's so nice to have had her for a couple days to get a good idea. After working her in the round pen for several hours (lots of sessions, not all at once!), she began to bobble on her right front just a tad. Apparently she got injured several months ago and since it had healed up nicely on the outside nicely, the didn't think to tell me about it. This is the most work she's had since then, so they didn't notice any soundness problems. I will be passing on her. :( Lots more out there, though! :D Thanks for the advice given!
