    Possible purchase--Greenbroke TB

So I introduced myself here, just to give everyone some background: New member--Need critiquing help with possible purchase!

Aside from the original horse I posted, I've looked at a few others as well. Here's another one I could use some help with. I have a very basic sense of conformation, so I'll be needing as much help as I can get and I REALLY appreciate it!

He's a 9 year old 16HH TB gelding. He's greenbroke and I'm not sure if he's off the track or not. I hate his head, but apart from that I'm not sure about his conformation. He would be a hunter/jumper prospect. He's $1100.

At 9 y/o and only greenbroke, he's not anywhere near worth $1,100.00.

You can find a sound, sane, conformationally correct TB off the track for nothing or next to nothing. Why take a chance on a greenbroke 9 y/o?

I am also not a confo expert, but is it just me or is there something REALLY weird about his back and croup and where they tie in together??

That's called a hunter's bump, Dubya. A lot of horses have it, TBs especially.

I've ridden a few OTTB's and had friends that have owned them. Most that I've encountered have had soundness issues relating to their history at the track. I know that this isn't always the case and many people have perfectly sound OTTB's but it does make me a little weary nonetheless. As well, I don't live near a track, so most horses that I find online/hear about aren't OTTB's.

I did find a very nice OTTB gelding, but he was bought the day before I was supposed to go down to see him. The market here is also such that there really isn't much under $1000. A low level hunter/jumper goes for minimum $3500 here.

Interesting, thanks! Learn something new everyday!

Guess its not anything to be concerned about? It just looks so weird. Glad my mare doesnt have it...LOL

Naw, not really. It looks bizarre if you've never seen it, but it's more a conformational flaw than anything else.

I don't like that horse's head, either. Big ole jug head with a mean little pig eye.

    Green Broke
Again anouther one that I would dismiss.

Extremely long back, jug head and pig eye (as pointed out above), croup high, his neck is upside down and set on quite high.

I agree. 1,100 is way to much for a 9yr old green broke horse. Is he pure breed or appendix? And the head looks like my thoroughbreds head. There heads are always long. With the big pretty eyes and yes the very loss bottom lip.

    I would pass as well.
