I want to know yalls opinions on my 6 year old QH gelding Andy. I know he is thin and needs alot of muscle, and I am working on that :). I was wondering more about his conformation because I don't know too much about that. Also how much weight do you think he needs to put on (fat not muscle - I know he needs alot of that)? He's 16.2hh and 1150lbs right now.

Sorry his head is turned, I didn't have anyone to help me! I can try to get some more pictures from different views if anyone wants to see them.

Thanks!

I just play it by ear, work til he looks right. He looks beautiful and very muscular already
He has some muscle but if you see him in person he is pretty scrawny. Mostly behind his withers he has a huge dip. I would like to work his back and core muscles so he can carry himself better.

Thanks though he is my handsome boy

He looks good to me! I like his conformation. What do you plan to use him for? He's got a steep shoulder, but I don't think that matters unless you are doing jumping. I'd say do some exercizes to build up hindquarter muscle, that may beef up his buns a bit :D.
I wouldn't make him too much "fatter" at this point - just muscle!

Sambostar-

I just use him as a trail/pleasure horse. I am somewhat interested in maybe learning to barrel race with him but only for fun - nothing too serious. I have always been pretty happy with his weight (as far as fat) but lately a few people have mentioned he was thin and it has me worried. I don't want a scrawny boy lol. I always thought QH's were supposed to be a little ribby but I am a new horse owner and didn't want to be doing him wrong.

In that picture, he doesn't look overly thin, but you're right, we can't see him up close. My Appy is the same way; looks fine, but has a hard time keeping flesh over his wither\topline. I think it's partially just the way he is.

Over all, I like him; he's got a really nice kind appearance, trim neck, decent shoulder (a little steep, but not majorly), nice hip. The only thing I see is that he seems a little strung out behind; meaning his hind legs set naturally behind where they should, instead of right underneath him where they should. It could also be the angle in which you shot the photo, as well. Over all, I really like him :D

I like him too. He is really pretty especially from his withers forward. He isn't very straight across the top and his butt isn't as strong as his shoulders, but I do like him. I would be careful with how much wait you put on him, I don't think he needs a whole lot either.
