Riding Critique?

This is me...about 3 years ago at a small open show. This is Flame, an Arabian mare. She was pregnant at the time. Critique please? I see holding the reins incorrectly...not sure what else.

P.S. I know you might not be able to tell...what do you think of the saddle fit? Something strikes me as odd.

I don't ride english so I won't critique. I just wanted to say that she is beautiful and y'all look really good together.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

the one thing that really sticks out to me is that you are riding with "piano" or flat hands. make sure to keep your thumbs up. It makes a huge difference on how the reins/bit feels in the horse's mouth.

As far as the saddle, for you it looks fine. you should be able to fit a hand (sideways) between your butt and the back of the saddle.

Flame is a bit behind the vertical. try to keep her poll up a bit more.

You look great, and so does the mare. You can tell she's a cute mover.
The only advice I would have is to shorten your stirrups one or two holes, they look more like dressage length here.

Like someone else commented, shorten you stirrups and hole or two, you're reaching for them. I would say to sit back, your shoulders have tipped forward (probably because of trying to reach down with your lower leg giving you a weak upper body) and now our whole center of gravity to too far forward.
You already mentioned your hands, so I'll leave those alone.
You look stiff, relax and I think everything will fall nicely into place. I love your elbow angle! The fad now-a-days is to have them forward with your hands on you horse's withers. You're looks great regardless of the hands. If you relax your shoulders and don't lock your hips up, you'll look really, really nice.

Someone already pointed this out, but I'll hit on it again; your horse is behind the vertical/evading the bit. It is a very nasty habit and you really will want to make sure it isn't a common occurance.

Overall, I think you look decent. If you raise your stirrups a couple holes I think it'll be much easier for you to fall into a more comfortable looking position. :)
