    Show Critique!

Chick and Cally got to go to a fall horse show! Please critique horse and rider.
Cally and I did the 3ft equitation and won! & we did our first 1m class and won the division!!!
Chick did the 2ft6 jumpers (her third jumper show) and she was quite a handful...so we ended up 4th and 5th with a couple rails.

    3ft eq- 1st!

Well I don't actually jump that high so it wouldn't be my place to give you some hardcore critique. But from what I can see, I do love you position. Nice hip/heel alignment and I love the way you're balanced over the center of the saddle. Awesome heel, though your release could be a little bigger (though I'm sure one of the more advanced riders here could tell you better, more specifically, and if I'm wrong :P). But like I said, I'm not quite as experianced as you are, so I can't really say much.

So anyways, you look awesome, and I love the horse. So cute! Congrats on your 1st place! :)

Thanks emerald! My release is definitely one of the weakest things in my jumping position.

The first thing that stands out is your absolute consitancy! Your overall position looks great. You are a little less confident looking on Chick, I see a little pinching at the knee, but if she was being a nix, this may be you riding defensively.

Emerald- her release isn't really that bad.... just... Huntery. LOL If you look through the photos, the horses are not gaping at the mouth and in the last pic she adjusted and gave more as the horse reached.
Your crouched over a low release, where I think at your level you could easily do an automatic and create a nicer line and feel. I'm wondering if this would lessen the mild hunch I see in your back. To me you just look bundled up right at the whithers.

The hunch I'm going to blame on the fact that my saddle is an inch too small and I'm trying desperately not to get thrown out of it. The release thing.. I had an auto release over the lower jumps, but my coach definitely prefers the crest release, so I've gone from auto to crest.
On Chick I definitely ride more defensively since she's only had 3 months jump training and these jumps are the scariest she has ever seen lol. But hey! We're getting there!

    Thanks MudPaint! :)

I agree with Mud. Very consistent. Your leg comes back maybe an inch in the one picture compared to the others, but you are sunk into your heels.

As far as the release goes, its fine. The first three pictures look like you had a bit of a chicken wing going on, but that just could be from the photo angles.

Emerald... The reason why her release is fine, is because there aren't 5 foot jumps. She doesn't need to have her hands by her horses ears to have given a release. Any more release, and she would be snatching back contact after landing, rather then having contact from beginning to end.

Okay, thanks for correcting me. :) I wasn't sure... I thought the rein looked a little tight for those jumps, but then again I've never jumped that high before so it's not really my place to say a definate answer. Just thought I'd throw it out there to see what other people said on the matter. :P
