    Thinking About This Mare

I found this mare on craigslist. I really like her color, her age, the fact that she's being ridden bareback by a little girl, and she has at least seen the barrel pattern.

I don't know a whole lot about conformation or how to spot lameness that isn't visible to a well trained eye.

    I would appreciate any help.

    Actually, she's very cute :)

Has nice conformation, except she might be a little bit over the knee. I'm not the best to do a conformation picture.

Have you messaged the owner yet? I'd love to hear what happens!

The whole angle of her front legs seem a bit off to me, but that might just be the fact that she isn't lined up prefectly in front of the camera. I'd definitely make sure she was vet checked before you bought her. She's super cute though, with fair conformation over all. Definitely worth a look =]

I keep forgetting that you're in AZ, too! Lol

I actually saw the ad for that mare the other day when I was cruising CL and thought she was adorable. Alert, but not flighty.

As far as conformation, I'm not very good at it, but I do like her overall build and the way she moves. I'm not seeing that she's over at the knee, what I'm seeing is that she isn't set up square in any of the pics, so it's making her look kinda wonky.

I vote go see her. Try her out. She really does look like a nice, solid, well-mannered mare.

Great, thanks everyone. I'm glad there's not really anything that I'm not seeing. I'm definitely going to go look at her. I've emailed the owner and as long as they are willing to come down on the price a little, I'm really excited about going to see her.

Drafty, I know what you mean. You and I are probably looking at alot of the same horses. I look just to look all the time.

I don't often look at the Phoenix or Tucson CLs, to be honest. I stay mainly in the north (mainly 'cuz my truck won't make it down to Phoenix ).

I can't see anything glaring wrong with this horse. From the picture, she looks great. I always say get a vet check on a horse that is mature & been ridden.

Overall, I think she looks like a nice, useful mare, and she seems to have a rather agreeable personality in the videos, as well.

There does look to be something a bit funky going on in her croup and loin area, though. Without her stood up square, it is very difficult to say for certain, but it looks to me that her LS joint is placed behind the point of her hip (what would be called weak-coupled). I can't tell from the photo if she's got a bit of a hunter's bump going on or what, but there appears to be a dip on her rump between the point of her LS joint and her tailhead. Her croup also looks a bit flat-ish for a speed horse, but I am far from an expert on gaming horse conformation, so I'm mostly just flagging that as a potential issue, rather than actually saying it is an issue. Actually, scratch that; I'm far from an expert on horse conformation -- full stop. Just some thoughts on things you might want to take a closer look at if/when you go take a look at her.

I agree with DraftXDressage....overall I think she looks nice, but something about her croup area looks a bit off the me as well....she sure is a cutie tho! Good LucK!
