Videos Thru The Year--> Showmanship and Equitation

Hey everyone! :) Now that school is about over, I was able to go to my instructor and get all the videos of me throughout the year. There is showmanship, equitation patterns, and a few shots from my first show! Please critique them and my progress through the year. Thank you!

I can't really comment as I ride primarily English, but your horse has excellent ground manners! I did notice the absense of a helmet cough cough though

All of those videos above are english type. Even the showmanship, I trained her to go in the english type halter classes.

Everyone has their own opinion on helmets. We aren't required to wear helmets doing flat work but we are for jumping. I know, I know, but it's my choice not to wear it during flatwork.

I know, I meant to say primarily Western xD My mistake! I can count the number of times I've ridden English on one hand

I didn't get a chance to watch a lot of them since technically I'm supposed to be in the truck driving right now butttt I did watch the horse show ones and one equitation one and I will say that your horse looks EXTREMELY tense and what I'm seeing is a false headset.
JMHO.

Yeah, like I said its not our best thing ever. I got very nervous because its my first show and she can get pattern-happy so that and my nerves combined = not a very pretty picture!

Yeah I know what you mean. My advice would be to do variations of your pattern. She expects a right turn? Give her a left. Don't allow her to memorize a pattern, keep tossing it up for her. Keep her on her toes.
As far as her false headset, I'd encourage you to do a lot of riding while thinking in your head "seat to hands. Seat to hands. Seat to hands." Ride her forward into the bridle, so she must come into contact, instead of allowing her to assume contact and carry her head so 'uppity' (I really can't describe that.)
Once she starts to engage her hind end and move forward with impulsion and rhythm, her front end will flow freely.
Keep up the good work :)

Thank you! I've been doing a lot of recent work of letting her out and letting her search for the bit while I keep the pace with my body. I'm not quite sure how to describe it but it seems to be working. But its like you said, she seems to memorize the pattern after the first time I work her through it! Mixing it up should help :)
