She is ten years old and 12.1 hands tall (Weight tapes just shy of 600 pounds) the previous owners did not know what breed she is, just curious what she looks like to you all. I feel that she looks like a Shetland the most (similar to my ASPC filly who is the typical 9.3hh) but shes quite large for that breed. She has some action but is not like any Hackneys that I've owned. Opinions?
She looks like a Welsh Sec B or C - probably a cross, to me. You must have very strange Shetlands over there! Ours are like hairy little teddy bears all year round. Her type is actually more like a Sec C, but she is a bit small for a C. http://www.cdfarmersmart.co.uk/dumfries/reports/special/2006/019.jpg
Hmm well this didn't do the trick, I was hoping for a united "She is a ..." to save me wondering
I do agree, she has a great look, ADOREABLE pony.
Welsh I have been wondering about, I haven't own one or even met one in person so I was hoping someone with Welsh experience would coment a yay or nay on that. Hmm.
Perhaps Shetland and Welsh? She certainly looks part American Shetland, and yet has more refined enough build for something like Welsh to have been tossed in there too.
She could almost be a fell or a dales, but has too much white to be pure. I would say she is probably at least 75% UK native. For all the respective breed societies would kill me for saying it, most of our true natives are very much of a make and shape, just variations on a theme. The exceptions are New Forest, who have had a lot of foreign blood in their history - Arab & Iberian, but revert to type because of the environment, and the show type of Welsh Sec A that have been selectively bred to resemble mini-arabs. All the larger native ponies of the cob type have this lovely action in trot, they all make wonderful driving pairs.
I keep meaning to say, she's a lovely pony. I'd give her field room!
