I was looking through CL and came across this horse. He seems pretty cute from the pictures, though they are blurry. But if he is calm around all that and they say he has no vices, why does he need an intermediate rider?

He either has some issues, is not as broke as they imply or it's simply b/c he is young, which the ad states. A young horse really isnt best suited for a beginner, especially if the beginner doesn't have a trainer.

Agree with OneFastHorse. They actually recommend an experienced rider for him .

He might have alot of go or can be stubborn sometimes. I sold my old mare who was very calm & cuddly, excellent ground manners, bombproof, been-there-done-that and who I had led kids around on multiple times as well as rode double with very little children.
On her own, she did like to toss her head & would get excited (she liked to run) though she was incredibly easy to control. This behavior could possibly spook a novice ride though, so I listed her for an intermediat+ rider just to be safe.

As to this particular horse, you could always ask why they recommend him for an experienced rider. Overall I think he's a good looking horse.
