A year of progress...

I thought I'd post these of our lesson kid (she's really become just another friend though). When she came to us, she'd been paying ridiculous amounts to ride lazy schoolhorses in group lessons taught by pony club kids. She kind of started off taking lessons from Shay-la, and it's evolved to her owning Shay-las pony (a gift for her birthday) and just coming out with us all the time to ride and have fun. She has future aspirations of jumping, and as she's advancing we're discussing the options of a real coach. Bear in mind she's come this far with nothing but backyard riders with no formal training coaching her along. She's quickly reaching the point where we can't do much more for her.

As for any comments about the hackamore Dove is being ridden in, please don't bother. My sisters boyfriend had been riding her and when we switched to English for jumping, her headgear didn't get switched. Dove really doesn't care what she goes in, and the curb strap is extremely loose. She's about as unsensitive as they come and can run through this hack at a gallop if she chooses to, so it just wasn't an issue. She's not a "jumping horse" either, she's just a patient trail mare worth her weight in gold and willing to attempt anything she's asked to do, which has been perfect for Ashley to learn on. Up until last summer, she'd never even been ridden in a bit, so she tends to actually prefer the hack, and works great in it.

So any constructive criticism is great, thanks!

What she looked like when she first started riding with us:

I don;t know much about jumping or 2-pointing..but it looks like she might be leaning too much. I may very well be wrong, though.

Gorgeous horse!

Very prety, both you and the horse. If I may say, your stirups are a bit to short. Lower them a notch or 2. It will help with your balance. I dont know every thing but that is my 2 cents worth.

Wow, great change! Maybe you should go get your instructor's certification! Haha, but wow, what an incredible improvement! Nice job.

I love the first photo how Dove has her eye closed. Very cute!

As far as improvement, she's really improved greatly! I would just say for her to stick her chest out more when she goes into too point.

she looks fantastic! My only suggestion is that for a jump that small she is leaning forward a bit too much. she really needs to open up her hip angle more. the difference is amazing though. great job!! Cute pony!

Definitely a great improvement! Only thing I see is to put her forearms I little more parallel with the horses neck so she is going chicken winged.

Thats what I was going to say also. Amazing improvement, next thing to work on though would be tucking the arms in.
