2011 may be year I swing a leg over

Well my girls have been bugging me to ride with them so this may just be the year I may talk to their instructor on the side so I can see the look on their faces when they see me. This should be interesting

Good luck! I started riding 2 years ago at 50...and this 50+ guy doesn't flex like a youngster, and worries more about falling (did it once - horse bolted, got her stopped, tried to dismount, she bolted again & I came off like I was in an ejection seat...landed on a couple of rocks and was sore for a year).

Still, I enjoy it more than I expected. I enjoy being around the horses, and I enjoy trying to learn how to work WITH them, rather than sitting on top like the Tin Man on a rack. Besides, I grew up watching westerns...

I figured I'd join in on the fun seeing how we have made big life changes for the horse thing. We sold our house and rent right now to get our own farm with 10-20 acres. I'm just looking to learn enough to be able to trail ride. I'll leave the showing thing up to my girls. Although I wouldn't mind trying my hand at cowboy shooting. Our whole family likes horses and think they are a very beautiful animal.

yee haw! 2010 was the year of the horse for me as well. I bought the kid a pony, and realized I didnt want to spend my days, sitting on the sidelines waiting for her ten minutes of horse glory.....
So I got myself one, then the wife one, and now, all I do is feed horses, and shovel up after them, and at 52...I get to ride!
Congrats. Keep your heals down! And if the horse starts to canter, relax and learn how to ride the canter, that is what I did!

P.s. Yes, horses are something the whole family can enjoy.....!

LMAO, Ken! That's what my dad does too (God bless his heart for helping me out so much!). And he doesn't even ride (because my horses are not beginner-friendly).

Boy, ain't that the truth! It is 37 deg in Vail, Arizona, and I just got in from feeding and cleaning!

But I enjoy learning about them, trying to figure out why they do what they do, and riding. No one will ever mistake me for John Wayne (although I'm working on the gut), but in my mind's eye, while on a horse...

Maybe we could get our own "mantown" forum. I'm guessing their are a bunch of guys who ride but just don't use a computer. I know some guys who say "if it wasn't for my wife I wouldn't have one". As for me we'll see this Thursday if I actually ride or should I say if the funds are available for me to ride plus my daughters.
