Am I too big for this horse?

Ok, I am a relatively well balanced rider, 5'5 116 lbs. my horse is a 14 hand Arabian, 18 years old. Am I too tall or heavy for him? We have been doing some light jumping, and riding 3-5 times a week, fr 1-1 1/2 hours at a time. And he wasn't gelded till he was 12, so he is a bit more muscular than your average gelding.

Hhmmmm.... I don't think I have any of me riding him, I'll check. If not I'll take some. He doesn't seem uncomfortable for me to ride him, and my trainer thinks I'm fine. He's just so.... Small compared to the horses everyone else rides. He was beside my friends Hanoverian/dartmoor mare and I was just amazed at how small he looks beside other horses.

Lol, I'm not the only one riding a little horse! I was considering doing endurance (LD rides, nothin too special) because he is very nervous in the ring, but loves trails and going as long as possible. No one can keep up with us :P

Seriously? 116 lbs? At your size and weight you could ride about anything.
Kilokitty and showjumperachel like this.

All I pay my psychiatrist is cost of feed and hay, and he'll listen to me any day!

you're fine, I'm 5'5" and 125 and ride much smaller ponies than that, I ride 13hh ponies in for training on a regular basis and school the kids ponies. I jump them and everything without an issue. Of course I'm not riding them everyday, and I'm much more comfortable on my 16.1 mare, but on a 14hh arabian I wouldn't see a problem.

Trooper is a 14.2 or 3 horse, 1/4 Appy & 3/4 Arabian. I weight 175-180, and if I bother him, he hides it well. Mia is taller, but still only 900 lbs. I ride her 4-5 times/week. If you're too big, I need to get out of horses and buy another truck...

I don't jump, so I don't know how that affects things. On the flats, you'll be fine.
