About 5 months ago, I fell off my TB. I was in an english saddle and I was galloping her for the first time(galloped many times before this). I forgot to secure the latch that keeps the stirrups from falling off. So we stopped fine and everything. Then on the way back disaster. I was riding with a friend and we were nearing a steep hill with about 4 meters wide of grass and the rest road. I was trotting then my friend decides to canter right before the hill and there goes my TB! She races off down the hill and at full gallop. I attempted to stop her but just then, my stirrup falls off! So I hang on for life, my TB is galloping on the road now and I have no control, I lose balance, fall and hit my head on the road. My helmet saved me! I was knocked out, friend caught my horse, ambulance came and yup. Lesson learned?: Always check your stirrups.
