Anyone in the Portland, Oregon area?? Looking for places to ride!

Hi, I am fairly new to the Portland area, and have a 6 y.o. Gelding that needs exposure to trails, arenas, and anywhere else really...and I have no idea where to take him! We ride western, and need places to go. I am also looking for riding buddies in my area, all my horse friends live in Washington and its hard to get together for a few hours to ride when ya have to drive so far. Looking in the Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin, and surrounding Areas. Any suggestions? Or anyone who wants to trail ride?

I do! Haha And my unflappable trail horse does too.
But I'm in Gresham and I don't have a trailer. :(

I have heard that there are some really nice trails out in the Beaver Creek area but that might be prohibitively far for you. There's also a really nice park, Thousand Trails State Park (...I think?), just past Troutdale. I've ridden there a few times and it was really nice.

Have you tried looking in hiking trail type guidebooks? It seems to me like most of the ones I've seen have included horse trails (well, multi-use trails that are useable by horses...) with a little horse symbol or something similar.

I wish I could be more helpful. I hope you find somebody! :)

I will keep that in mind...I am in Tualatin and am buying a trailer shortly, I am just getting back into horses after a crazy past 10 years lol, I have also thought of going to the library and looking at books for trails etc. I will look up 1000 trails, I have heard of it but didn't know where it was...thanks!

Northrup is one of my favorite spots in the area Northrup Creek Horse Camp Information.

Stub Stewart state park is also very popular, it's off the Banks-Vernonia trail which is an old rail road grade.

Reehers camp is another popular destination, wasn't for me though.

This is the state parks for this part of Oregon Oregon Department of Forestry - Tillamook State Forest Recreation Opportunities in the Tillamook State Forest

Also check out OET Welcome to Oregon Equestrian Trails website, a non-profit community of horseback riders. you can join your local chapter which will hook you up with local horsie people. OET also has a book put out with trail info.
