Anyone ridden in Australia?

Has anyone on here ridden in West Australia or New Zealand? We're planning a vacation later this year (from the U.S.) and I'd appreciate any info about rental places and where to ride.
I've rented horses in Iceland and Ireland so if anyone wants any tips about that I'd be happy to share.

I would love to someday, but sadly, I can't provide the information you are looking for. The good new is there are many members of the forum that are from Australia, so hopefully they will find your thread.

And you are very lucky to travel the world, let alone do it on horseback

I am in NSW and we have some lovely beaches that you can ride on.
If i was you i would head to Victoria's High Country...where the Man From Snowy River was made...You can actually visit the HUT that was in the film...They have 3 , 5 or week camps ...

I have attached a link to the website..

www.highcountryhorses.com.au

Hopefully one of the other Aussie forumites might live in Victoria and have some contacts for you ...
Good luck.
When are you coming out to Australia?
You will have a great time...

there a riding schools littered every where over in WA.
I have been to some when we go down South, Margeret River, Augusta and some others.
They usually do wine tours, or just 1-3 hour long trial ride.
I'm not to sure if they hire out horses... would probs have to ring up and ask...

ohh haha your looking at places to rent not horses, lol that makes sense

There is always caravan parks or if you want more class I'm pretty sure some places have shallas you can rent out.
I don't know any number, but if you do a google search I am sure you will find heaps

Not many places 'hire' out horses now due to insurance purposes, and you'll find that going on trail rides, you will have a very hard time finding anywhere that goes faster than a walk or a very slow trot - again due to insurance!
If you can tell us specifically where you're headed in Australia, we'll be able to give you more help

As Kayty said you won't be able to hire out horses - we don't do that here. Trail rides will be guided by a person from the business and they will dictate the route and speed.

I've never ridden in WA but I have ridden in NZ, near Dunedin. It was mainly walking with a bit of trotting, and I got to canter at the end, but it was more of a "beginners" sort of ride. If you have a group of experienced riders you can sometimes have a private ride to your level, but otherwise you are put in with beginners. There is lots of riding in NZ.

There is one place that hires out horses in Perth, Western Australia. Unfortunately, the horses are all standies with no education and all on the slender side.

There is a stable that does trail rides along the beach at sunrise and sunset.

I am in Perth, and quite central. I can thoroughly recommend lots of horsey places, there is lots of equine action to be had here :)

Mods, grant me the serenity to see the opinions I cannot change, courage to change the ones that should change, and the wisdom to spot the trolls.

Thanks everyone for all the info about riding in WA and NZ. I really appreciate all the help. It is hard to figure out which places are good to ride when you're searching the internet from the other side of the world.
I guess I should have been more specific about where we are planning to go. We are going to fly into Perth and drive down along the coast as far as Esperence and then go up to at least Ningaloo, also along the coast.
I didn't mean actually to rent a horse, just pay to be taken on a trail ride with a guide, either with other riders or not. We probably will only have time for a couple of hours of riding time, so want to go somewhere we can see some real Australian scenery by horseback. What I'm really hoping to find would be a ride on a beach where there are not a lot of other tourists but just nice scenery. My husband does not ride very often so we don't mind if it is a walk/trot ride. I was lucky when we went to Ireland and Iceland, both horse outfits put my husband on a nice mellow horse and his gelding grazed nicely while the guide and I went for a short gallop. I will look at the web links you all have posted.
