  1. How has being involved with horses changed your life?
I have met many great people. I have also learned a lot about myself by working horses. You have to learn to control your emotions and see things from anothers point of view. I think that has helped in my human relations.
  1. What advice would you give to someone who wants to create a career with horses?
Decide what you're willing to sacrifice to make your living with horses. There are very few full-time horse related jobs and most are not real high paying so you may have to make some tough choices.
  1. How long have you been riding?
I'm 32 now so I have been riding for 26 years. I have been training for other people for 15 years and I am now employed full time doing it.
  1. How much time do you spend at the barn?
I spend the better part of my working day out there.
  1. What age do you think is a good age to begin riding or taking lessons?
No younger than 6. Earlier than 6 and kids don't have the strengh or the balance to ride properly.
  1. What has been the biggest challenge for you in horsemanship?
Dealing with the various horse owners that hire me to ride thier horses.
  1. What’s the best advice you can give to a beginning rider?
Find someone to help you that is succesful in whatever disipline your interested in.
  1. Are there any horse-related books/videos/web sites that you would highly recommend?
I really like Ray Hunt. He is the originator of the horse clinic and he gives student more philosophy than the step by step clinicians do. This is important when a horse doesn't fit with what you see on a video or in a book. If you know the philosophy then you know what to do.
  1. What traits make for the best riding instructors?
A tell-it-like-it-is personality and a love for horses. They also need to know what good horsemanship is and never deviate from it.
  1. What’s the most exciting part of horsemanship to you?
Seeing a young colt turn into a good riding horse.
