So, my mare Dakota has made it a habit of backing up when she doesn't want to do something I ask (only under saddle, she's an angel on the ground). I attempt to correct this by turning her and trying again what it was she didn't want to do. It has helped a bit (I used to have to dismount because I couldn't get her to stop) but she still backs up. She has backed into all sorts of things, but most recently my mom's mini van and almost took the mirror off! Luckily she hasn't hurt herself or broken anything and I would feel terrible if she got hurt doing this, so I've only been riding her in pasture. My farrier says she is very healthy and has great conformation.
I would love to hit the trails again before it gets to cold, so any advice and suggestions would be great.
A bit about Dakota: She is 15 years old and 16.2hh, Tennessee Walking and QH cross and is sound. She likes to get up and go (which is why I find this as alarming as I do) and has an amazing temperment.
