bad fall last night =(

so last night at about 5.30 I was riding the pony jumping and he was going perfectly!! He's never been great over showjumps even though he's get terrific form he's just wary. We were going over only about 30-40cm, but he's only bn in work since saturday so the fact that he's jumping is amazing!! Anyway, we came down the treble and he wasnt entirely sure of the middle fence and I was not ready for it (rider error, not pony error!!) when he refused. I came down his neck then slipped to the side as he made his getaway but landed on my feet (success!!) but then the buckled and my upper body kinda flexed at the back and bent backwards underneath itself kinda, and I heard a big crunch an all I new is I was on my back with a lot of pain and pins and needles down my legs. I completely freaked out, and being the self-diagnosing hyperchondriact that I am, came up with all these wacky things that could have happened (severed spinal cord, slipped disc, paralysis........) dad was there and saw the whole thing and long story short we had to call the ambulance to come get me and I spent half the night in emergency department getting xrays and people poking and prodding me all over, and I honestly couldn't tell you how many times I heard the phrase "does this hurt..? does this hurt..? does this hurt..?" argh.. all well!! I had suspected broken back but the xrays didnt show a lot, the they diagnosed me with muscle and ligament damage in my middle back and a possible hairline fracture in my lower back/tail bone area which they can't do much about.. so im high as a kite on pain killer drugs and scored a day off school and maccas for tea last night!! Yay!!

live for the good times,, forget all the bad,, love him forever and you'll be always glad!! So hug like you mean it,, and kiss in the night,, smile when they cant see and never ever fight!!

Oh dear! So sorry to hear about your fall. Hope you heal and recover quickly. Really a bummer isn't it. (((Hugs to you))).

Ouch. At least you got the good drugs! If it makes you feel better, I came off exactly the same way a few weeks ago. I managed to not get hurt, but it did make me decide to get a protective vest for next time I try some jumping. I'm too old to be landing on my tailbone on a regular basis!

Ouch, that hurts even reading about it. Take it easy and heal up completely before you try riding again!

I forgot to ask. How many minutes were you in the hospital before you asked when you could ride again? I love watching doctors roll their eyes when you're sitting in the ER with a broken bone or a massive hematoma and all you want to do is go riding again!

Get better soon!! Keep working on those jmups! He'll get there

There is one principle that should never be abandoned, namely, that the rider must first learn to control himself before he can control his horse. This is the basic, most important principle to be preserved in equitation - Alois Podhajsky
