Bareback Jumping....

So I recently started riding bareback again, and I love it! I haven't ridden bareback in about 5 years and it felt so good. I am super confident walking trotting and cantering but when it comes to jumping I get a little nervous. ( only when doing it bareback, and I've only done it once ) So a couple weeks ago I had a bareback lesson because it was really friggin cold out (Vermont, wonderful MOODY state) and we did wtc, but I wanted to try jumping. So we did. It started out as a SUPER small crossrail. Fine with me. But it was put up to a wee bitty verticle, and I was having problems getting my butt off of his back. He got fussy, which is understandable, but I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get a better jumping position riding bareback. I have pretty strong legs, being a horseback rider, but still I was having a very hard time. Thanks for reading!!

Jumping bareback is no different than jumping with a saddle. If you have a weak sloppy position in the saddle you will have a weak, sloppy position bareback. If you are strong and secure in the saddle it's no different bareback other than your pants getting dirty.

The best thing I can tell you is to really try and feel like you are in a saddle! Don't let your knees flap and keep them tight to his body. That will help you get off his back. Another thing is, you might just be getting scared. Until I got comfortable with bareback jumping, I couldn't move..literally a bump on a log. Just get confident and go for it! If you're that scared/nervous maybe you should work on the smaller stuff and build your confidence up on that! Good Luck!

You just gotta practice ! And its very very important that you stay off of the horses back over the jump. Here is me and a horse I used to train jumping 4ft, im also barefoot haha
