Basically Re-Breaking Prince.

Hi Everyone.

Ive decided to try and go through the "breaking" process with Prince, I need him to trust me. Prince (AKA Phillip) isn't a bad pony, but a scared one. He spooks daily , but i knew that when i got him. Hes willing to listen and work, and he gets bored easily (hes a Left Brain Extrovert). He eats a lot (pulling branches of a trees when walked on the trails), but i dont have a riding ring. I do have a cleared area where he could be ridden on a lunge (im so more advanced then that lol), but i dont completely trust him and i dont think he trust me either. He was abused from a weaning to a two-year-old, so that doesnt help either.

He needs to be worked and i just dont know what to do with him. I have walked him by "large scary tarps", across wood plywood, i jump him (on the ground), i do the 7 games, and i groom him while he eats almost daily (he loves being groomed), and I tack him up. The other day i tacked him up and sat on him, he walked around nervously and tried to eat quickly.

What can i do to calm him down and get him to trust me? Or games to play with him...

Grooming and rubbing is a great way for a horse to trust you, so when you are on him sit there and rub his sholder. Did I read it wrong or is he eatting with a bit in his mouth?

try not to let him reach for those leaves!! that can give him colic (from what i've heard) by eating in the middle of a ride.

There is one principle that should never be abandoned, namely, that the rider must first learn to control himself before he can control his horse. This is the basic, most important principle to be preserved in equitation - Alois Podhajsky
