    Help, sorry don't want to sound thick, but what is a breastplate????,, is it for a martingayle to go on or is it so the pad dosent move backwards,, ,,

    It keeps the saddle from slipping back. Some horses need it and others it is used as a safety precaution.

    And yes martingales do attach to them, but its not a necessity.
