burnt out dude!!

Does anyone ever get burnt out and bored riding in the arena all the time??!! It sucks real bad, but there are just times when I can't get out due to other things. If you can't get out, what do you recommend me doing? I do some patterns here and there, but they just get old too. If anyone knows any patterns that I havn't done, or that they just made up, please let me know!!!! I'm getting bored lol. I'll try to make up some of my own patterns as well.

101 arena exercises by Cherry Hill. Some pretty good exercises. Also do rides completely without stirrups, groundwork sessions etc are all boredom busters ofr me up here in the Great White North where the winters are soooo looooong. I also have put together special nightw with just the ladies (mostly moms) some of whom truck their horses in. We swap horses and critique eachother...mostly we laugh a lot and have a glass of wine afterwards in the shedrow. A lot of fun!

You could work on reining patterns or dressage tests. Maybe set up an obstacle course if you can. Anything to challenge both you and your horse. If there is some training issue that you notice, you could work on that as well.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

I get very bored, so does my horse. What we do to kill the boredom is open the gate and head down the road

When I get bored I usually do a bareback ride and work on something fun. Lately that's been teaching my horse to neck rein (we do mostly dressage). ;) We also put up small crossrails or trotting poles for a change of pace. If you can, I'd go for long walks around the property or trail ride. Nothing like racing up a hill to clear the mind.

I just do dressage, theres always something to work on in dressage! Haha
Or I just fool around and play polocrosse, or jump a bit, or bareback, or try bridless.

If there are no horses in heaven... im not going.

I don't generally arena ride, but when I have, and I've gotten bored, I simply head for the trail; nothing like the trails to clear the mind of rail boredom!

If you can't hit the trail, work on ground work, maybe dressage, or some other kinds of disciplines you've never tried before.

I know how you feel when riding in the arena. I would ride in the arena all the time. The was an outdoor arena as well as an indoor. They became dull and even my horse didn't want to go in the arena anymore. I would occasionally ride around where people would board..I boarded there too but some people don't like when people ride around the stalls so I tried not to do that but when I did it was a lot of fun.
What I would recommend is some good ol' ground work. I still need to do ground work and yes that can be very dull as well. But in the end it is the best and a good refresher for the horse :)

I mainly do trail riding & sometines barrels & poles. No dressage though.
If you are just looking for something different to do & still be riding in the arena, try cowboy polo (beach ball & brooms), horse soccer, or set up a competative trail obstacle course. Things like getting mail out a mail box, crossing a wooden bridge, or like weaving through some cones backwards.

So in lies the madness, the pursuit of the impossible in the face of the complete assurance that you will fail, and yet still you chase.

we don't have an arena, for me its the field however i'm only really in it if we're shoe less. I tend to set up a few jumps ( well I can't really call them jumps and whiskey has now realized she can trot over them easier than jumping over it) and the field we go in is attached to a little paddock so if theres sheep or cattle we try herding them in the paddock :) maby you could get a giant exercise ball, set up some goals and see if you can get your horse to play football orr get some buckets and a few balls and try getting the balls in the buckets while cantering I dunno im no good with ideas
