Yay!! Congratulations. You must be good at riding if you can canter bareback. I'm too afraid to canter with a saddle!

good job! Once you've got each gait down, cantering is actually easier than the trot...it's just that to canter you need to be able to handle that ridiculously fast trot that they'll often go into right before or right after...otherwise it wouldn't really be safe. Anyway, keep up the good work! Riding bareback is a big step for most riders, so it's great that you're getting some experience with bareback early on! (sorry if you're not a beginner, but your wording made it sound like you were so I assume this is early on...?) Either way, congrats on a successful ride.

A horse is the projection of peoples' views about themselves--strong, powerful, beautiful--and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existance.

isnt that the best feeling ever! I am training my filly myself, and the first time we cantered, it was bareback. It felt like such freedom! And yet I can ride pretty good, and have ridden many differnt horses! Just somehow, the first time is always the best! I hope you continue to enjoy riding!

Big contratulations! Good on you for giving it a go.

There is one principle that should never be abandoned, namely, that the rider must first learn to control himself before he can control his horse. This is the basic, most important principle to be preserved in equitation - Alois Podhajsky

That's awesome! Now you just have to learn to jump bareback.... Hehehe. Once you can canter bareback everything else comes way easier. Once it hits 30 I don't even touch my saddle :) Well except for shows of course...
