I'm a very music motivated person. If I put my mind to something and add some music I can get it done faster and better. I've always had an issue with the quietness of the arena when I'm riding and I don't want to play music if there are other people riding because not everyone has the same taste in music.
So I added some music to my late night rides while there aren't other riders in the arena. I put a game to it. I brought my portable cd player, put in a mixed cd I made and tried to match the tempo of the music with her stride. I try to go back and forth through transitions and all speeds each time. I'm not huge on fast songs and I've noticed she's actually more responding or seems to be more responding while we're playing my little musical beats game.
I'll add a link to my most used playlist when I'm riding.I'm to attach a couple clips but youtube and myspace won't let me upload them without deleting the sound so I'll add clips when I can. It was late and both of us were tired so my position is definitely not the best and I need to buy some longer reins so my arms can be more relaxed. I overlay the audio because my friend who was recording was talking to his daughter and there was a horse in the barn throwing a fit so you couldn't hear the song very well at all. I tried my best to overlay the song in the same place it was on the video.
This is just something I'd like to share. It's fun to me and when I'm alone it gets rid of the quiet. I've also noticed it really helps me focus on keeping her calm and collected. She's not high strung at all but if I let her she'll slow down, speed up, and then decide she doesn't need to do anything and just walk.
Please ignore the playlist name. It's old.
