Feeling guilty...

Didn't know what part of the forum to put this in but oh well...

Basically I don't have an easy horse, had an okay hack today with the occasional bolt/small rear. He's an older horse so does know how to behave.
Well it was a hot day so I went to cool his back where the saddle with the hose to help cool him down.. but he was not having it and ran towards the field gate. At first I just thought he thought I was taking him to the field, as the hose is near the field.
So I took him after managing to catch him and he turned, stood on my foot with his back hoof (yep he has shoes on!!) and ran again.

I lost my temper with him after our day today, I shouted very very loud and the whole yard heard me I was shouting at him for napping and running away while I was trying to tie him up and 2 of the girls were laughing at me.. I feel so embarrassed and guilty for shouting at him but I have a short temper to be honest I'm afraid everyone thinks I'm nasty or a mean person

Is there any advise to help me get over this?

Everybody loses their cool sometimes...it's not like you bludgeoned him or anything. If they were laughing at you, I doubt they're going to think you're a cruel owner. Maybe take a day or two off and go back into it with a clear head.

Treat it just as your horse would. Put it in the past and leave it there. We all do not so great things from time to time. Learn from you horse and take a step back next time before reacting.
