First real bareback ride today

I've never really rode bareback...I just usually walked around bareback after a long ride so my horse could cool off.

Today it was extremely hot and I didn't feel like tacking up Apollo and he hadn't been ridden in 3-4 days and didn't want to give him the entire week off, so I just hopped on and rode for a little bit. It was his first time being trotted and cantered bareback and it was my very first time cantering bareback since I was 8 (I took a really bad fall and haven't tried since). I wasn't really planning on cantering but I was very comfortable sitting his trot and I've always heard the canter is easier to sit so I said "what the heck" and asked him to canter and sure enough everyone was right.

I'm so incredibly lucky with how smooth my horses trot and canter are. I honestly didn't even come off his back at all and everyone was asking to hop on and see what he felt like because he looked so comfortable (although I didn't let them..lol). I can't believe how easy it was for me to sit a canter...I have always had a fear of cantering bareback since I fell cantering bareback when I was 8, so had never dreamt of doing it again. I'm also amazed with how good my balance is. There were only a couple times when I almost came off when he would quickly drop his shoulder (we're working on that) but even then I'd quickly find my balance and managed to stay on...

I surprisingly find it much easier to ride bareback than in a saddle...I usually end up riding without stirrups or dropping them halfway through the ride because they annoy me and I feel I'm a better rider without them. Anyone else prefer bareback over saddle?

(Ik his noseband is loose and sliding up his nose...)
