The boy that has the drafty (I think he's a breton cross..?) might be getting sent to a different foster home and/or taken out of 4H..which leaves (we'll be calling this horse Drafty, btw) Drafty open for 4H. The papers for everything aren't due until June 1, so we have the rest of May to figure out what's going on with the foster boy and Drafty.
Drafty isn't really a game horse, because he's actually rather slow..but I'm sure he could do poles/stakes, even if he wouldn't have winning times. I've taken him through the patterns once at a trot, and he didn't try to run out of it or give much fuss, so I'm sure I could do that with him, just for the experience and fun.
This show on Sunday is just a fun show, first of our 4H season. It's not all too competitive, so it ought to be a nice show to start out with, right?
I have absolutely no clue what I ought to do to get ready for it. O.o;
I mean, I know I have to come up and bathe/groom Drafty the day before, as well as re-groom him that morning. I know I have to load him, be able to tack him (I'm still worried about his bridle..since I don't have the will to yank and pull on his ears to get it on), learn the correct knot to tie him, etc etc..but I'm not really sure what to expect for anything else.. o.O;
My dad's going to be rather pissed that he'll have to get up and have me at the barn (an hour away from his house, coz it's his weekend with me and my brother) by 7 in the morning, but I think he'll deal because I'm pretty sure he understands a little bit about how much I was hoping for a horse (who I thought I'd be getting Drafty) for 4H this year.
So...I'm mainly asking what to expect while we're loading (he seems to load and unload nicely) and at the show..
I'm not for sure going, and won't know until tomorrow or friday; but I thought I might as well as before the night of so that I can get a bit more of an idea that Drew told me about..
