Know what you mean Dave. I think that's why it took us so long to sell the few horses we have sold. We were too honest. I don't remember how many emails I would get from someone new to horses that I had to tell 'no this horse isn't for you'.
I just couldn't in good conscience sell a horse to a person with a child and then the child gets hurt. I couldn't live with myself.

Yeah the dangers of buying or receiving horses, the odd thing it's even worse when the horse is cheap/free it's often cause they really want to get rid of it.
I'm much like you Vida shoot myself in the foot cause I'd rather find the right home for my horses, I was once selling a rather flightly, sometimes fairly naughty chestnut mare(need I say more) I only wanted $500 for her I was dead honest about her in her ad & to people on the phone. Some of the people that came to look at her I didn't even let get on her.

free horses

Vida I applaude you and your husband for being this way it is so nice to find the honest horse folks out there .I have bought and sold horses for a big part of my life and there have been quite a few I would not sell to certain folks because the horse was not right for them . And I made some people very angary at me . But I went to sleep at night knowing I did the right thing. Niki and I bought an appy stud last year that we had gelded before we got him home . And that horse came to us with an amazeing great reputation and to this day I will never buy from that person again . The horse hated kids and I mean hated kids . Niki and I and the 2 kids were in the barn lot brushing our horses down before a ride and this app came up from behind us and grabbed my 7 yr son by the neck and jerked him up and shook him like a rag. We had not had him only a few weeks when this happened . My son has not been near a horse since he is terrified of them and I will admit I did the unthinkable when this happened . I shot the sob straight between the eyes that very night , and have only regretted not knowing his history before hand . I could have sold him to auction or kept my mouth shut and sold him to someone but if a kid got hurt bad or killed by him I would have been done . Christian wasnt hurt real bad but bad enough and I will always go the extra mile to check out a horse first or keep it totally away from people till I do know what he is like

That sounds horrible! I know what you mean too. The person in the barn I used to work sold a paint as a kid horse. Next day the paint was delivered back by the very mad new owner: ended up the paint HATED kids and bucked them off (even very experienced ones). He was fine with adult though... Just never know...! I do respect people who say all truth upfront as the horse may hurt VERY badly!

I have been luckey, as I have been given two horses for free and they were marked crazy! One was a 15 yr old morgan gelding that was supposed to be impossible to ride and horrible to handle. Well I got on him thinking I was going to die, and he ended up be fantastic under saddle and a great horse to ride and get along with. He has perfect ground manners and loves his feet picked up! Then I got a 3 yr old that is suppost to be a really bossy, rude, hard to handle mare.. Okay well the first time she even seen a saddle.. we went on a trail ride... ON our third ride.. I was standing on her back and doing whatever! She follows you everywhere and loves people and attention. The only problem she had was her feet being touched and that was fixed by taking a leg wrap and rubbing it up and down her leg... ( she bit me the first time I tried to pick up her feet ) she is so sweet in the pasture and low on the pecking order! ~*Confused *~ I can't believe someone would send you 4 horses like that saying that they were great :- / some people these days ...

Hey Dave,
How are the four "gentled" QHs doing? I hope they settle in quickly for you.
