Get a horse in shape??

Would love some advices on different ways to help get a horse in shape after a couple months of no exercise this winter. Going to be doing mounted shooting this summer and just seeing what different ideas are out there besides just what I've always done!

At first lots of walking and some trotting. Increase the amount of trotting. I go for 10 minutes walking, 20 trotting, 10 walking as a basic goal. It only takes are few weeks of riding 4 or 5 days a week to reach that.

Where we go from there depends on what the horse is going to do.

We're just north of you, our horses have had this winter off too! Wednesday was the first time out for a ride since the end of October, we just walked around the mile, it's still slippery in spots here....
