Haven't Ridden in a While...

It's been quite a long time since I've ridden a horse and because of that I lost all of my knowledge on how to ride. I've recently bought a horse off of an old member on this forum, but I need to re-learn how to ride. I was wondering if anyone knows of any instructors who can teach my dad and I how to ride western around the Battle Creek, MI area. The instructor can't be too expensive, but decent prices would be nice. The stable I'm boarding my horse at doesn't have an instructor, so I need to find one.

I'm not close to Battle Creek, which sucks because I have a few good numbers for the Detroit area. I would just suggest calling around to a few of the local barns. Your stable couldn't suggest anyone for you?

Well, the stable I board at isn't very advanced at all. There's no arenas, no seperate place to wash your horse, 3 small pastures, 2 big pastures, 2 round pens, 1 old barn, and 1 new barn that isn't completed yet. What I'm trying to say is that I'm at a stable that I don't think knows many people because it's so small and unadvanced. I could always ask, I guess. However, I'll call the other stables and see what they have to say.

Ohhhh, I gotcha. Well, the place I board is someone's house barn, lol. So, it sounds a little bigger than yours, but otherwise, quite the same. But, I ALWAYS ask my Barn Owner's advice about EVERYTHING, cuz even though he isn't entirely active as far as horses go, he knows LOTS. And, if you couldn't tell, I know little, lol.
Well, I hope you find someone. You could always place an ad on say Craigslist or something. The lady that owned my horse before me, answered my ad about leasing and also hired a trainer that way.
Good Luck!

Lol, I'm starting back up into horses from about 4 years off, so I lost all my knowledge on how to ride and care for horses. The barn owner is re-teaching me basic horsemanship so that I can care for horses, but can't teach me to ride. I'm with you when it comes to being clueless. I used to know what I was doing then lost it all because of the stupid economy. Thank you for the advice.

Ask around at your local feed store or tack shop.

So in lies the madness, the pursuit of the impossible in the face of the complete assurance that you will fail, and yet still you chase.

Next time I visit Quinn I'll go to Western Breed and see if they can help me out. Western Breed isn't too far away from the stable, so it should work out.
