I have tight hips...too many years of jogging, I guess. I find I regularly need to think "Move your knees apart!" while riding. Otherwise I WILL grip with my knees. It probably takes me an hour of riding before my hips will relax and stretch out enough that I stop gripping. It may be the effect of starting riding at 50...
If I think about my heels at all, I think "Toes up!".
