Heels down

Hi guys,
So, I've never been that great at keeping my heels down. It's not that they physically CANT go down- they can- but i just have to keep on reminding myself and then after a bit they come right up again.
I have a theory that I might be gripping with my knees and blocking the weight from flowing to my heels, but I've never really noticed myself doing this before...
So anyway, do you guys have any tips on how to keep them down? Or do you have any other theories or ways to stop gripping with my knees (if I am gripping with my knees)
Thanks, I hope that made sense :)

I have tight hips...too many years of jogging, I guess. I find I regularly need to think "Move your knees apart!" while riding. Otherwise I WILL grip with my knees. It probably takes me an hour of riding before my hips will relax and stretch out enough that I stop gripping. It may be the effect of starting riding at 50...

If I think about my heels at all, I think "Toes up!".

To add on... think of it more as stretching your entire leg down from hip to heel. Like little gnomes are hanging on your ankles or an octopus is tugging you down. If you think of it more as a stretch, you'll be more likely to keep your heels down without putting pressure into the stirrup and popping back up.. or worse.. hurting your ankle.
