I am wondering about ways to make my own safe caveletti. I have some very wide and heavy tree sections, maybe 1 foot across and 8-10 inches deep.
If I attached poles to the outside edge of the tree rounds, either permanently or detachably, I could turn the tree rounds to make the poles either lie flat on the ground or be as high as a foot off the ground. I could block them, if necessary, to keep them from turning. Does this sound safe? Anyone make their own caveletti any other/better way?
I've never heard of making them out of actual trees (maybe that's a thing?), but on YouTube and websites there are a few tutorials for making your own from lumber.
In your description you talk about attaching the poles to the tree rounds. This sounds a bit dangerous to me...what if your horse trips...I would use the poles and the rounds but find a way to put them together without permanent attachment....
Yeah, I think you guys are right. And the tree rounds attract red fire ants... and they are wicked heavy. I would love to get some of those cavaletti blocks, but they are so pricey. Maybe next year...
I bought risers for poles. You can stack them to make them higher, but more than two stacked is pretty unsteady. You could get up to 8" plus and if you used a larger diameter pole that would add a bit. They are light and easy to set up/take down and store to the side.
I've got some 'purpose designed' square plastic blocks that you can fill with sand or water if you want to make them heavier, they can be stacked two high to raise the height and turned around to get more variation in height - they work really well and light enough to carry around.
They look like this https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/b/3300
