Question How to build confidence?

Hi, I've been riding for about 2 and half years. I've been jumping for just over a year but I have a problem with confidence. The biggest I can jump is about 1"6ft! Any bigger and I just freak out completely, but I really want to jump higher... I just don't have the confidence.

I have lessons weekly at my local riding stables and ride a variety of different ponies and I trust them all completely. I just don't trust myself...

Has anyone had this issue and what can I do about it?

Thank you

PS. I'm fine riding on the flat, hacks and jumping 1"6 uprights.

With jumping, sometimes you do need to go a bit out of your comfort zone. Just jump at your comfortable height until you feel confident enough to jump higher. Maybe you could make the 18 inches you are currently comfortable at scarier. Put flowers or saddle pads on it, something to make it seem more difficult.

One thing I do is jump stuff that I don't know the height of. When I fox hunt I'll jump 3'6" - 4' and not even know it until the person who set up the jump tells. Just do things at your own pace until you feel ready.
