How Far Do You Travel for Lessons?

I'm looking at taking some lessons, and the closest barns I can find in my area are a little over 2 hours away... Since they're so far away, I'm just thinking about doing one once a month or maybe less than that, since I ride quite often at home.
So I was just wondering--How far do/would you travel for lessons? I've never taken regular lessons before, so idk what's reasonable and unreasonable. It's a really nice barn though and looks amazing super nice hunter/jumper facility!!

When I was training for nationals this summer, I travelled 5.5 hrs once way, every week. I'd go down, spend 2 nights and come home on the 3rd day, or even the 4th if it was right before a big show. It paid off too!

We travel 2 hrs one way as much as we can, sometimes we also stay 2 nights and 3 days. It is really worthwhile if it is a good instructor. We have one 3 miles down the road but that is another story for another day.....

We travel about 15 minutes away. I would not go farther than half an hour unless I was showing or really serious about specializing in a certain discipline, but that is just me.

It all depends. Is it a good barn and instructor? Are you ok with driving that far away for lessons? Do you plan on trailering your horse over? It's all up to you.

40 minutes to my horse, the instructor comes to me. But 40 minutes eitherway..

My coach lives about a 4-5 hour trailer ride away. I am lucky that she travels and does clinics and that the barn I board at lets me host them there! So about every 6 weeks I get her for 2 days at my barn. However, I do still travel down as much as I can possibly get away!! It ends up being about 5 or 6 weeks a year. Then at shows I will arrive a day or 2 early (she lives by most of the competitions) and get coaching there as well.

It's tough but so worth it for the level of coaching I get!! I did take 3-4 months off and went to her barn about two years ago and trained with her every day for that period of time. Now I feel like when she comes and coaches me I am really learning myself how to train on a daily basis and she is guiding me and showing me "the next step". I would not have been able to structure any semblance of a training program without that constant 3 months of everyday lessons though.. So it is a balance - But I would love to have a weekly lesson!!

It would depend on how good the instructor was for me. If it was a top notch trainer that I respected I would be willing to go 2 hours + on the weekend!

Unfortunately I don't have a trailer or truck, so I just take lessons/clinics at my barn. There also aren't a lot of higher up stables/trainers around where I live that offer NICE lesson horses.

Now all I've gotta do is convince my parents that I really do need lessons. They seem to always say, when I bring it up, "You can already ride great and you don't need lessons!", but I know I really do need lessons! I really want to do hunter/jumpers! They think I'm fine with just running my pony around the barrel pattern and stuff like that, and I am happy, but I still really want to do more, go farther, etc. I just am having trouble convincing them that I really do need lessons to do that!! Any advice on this??

I live at my current trainer's barn. Lol. Talk about committed eh? But I used to travel up to 2 hours to get to a trainer. It depends on how good the trainer is, and how serious you are about taking lessons.

Convincing the parents always seems to be the hard part. Lol. I'm lucky my mom has always wanted me to be the best rider I can possibly be and I've always taken weekly lessons(sometimes more than one a week). I'm moving possibly soon, so we're scrambling to find a new barn and trainer I like. I'm rather picky. Just present your case to your parents about how you feel and that you need lessons to make any real serious improvements in your riding. Nobody is perfect. The only way to get better is to practice under the guidance of someone who knows more than you do. Lol. No matter how many shows I win at, I still know there's room to improve.

One hour one way on good day (no traffic, no construction, no accidents, and I hit all lights on green).
