How many lessons???

I have been trying to find a trainer that could give lessons for western riding. My goal is to be better balanced and to be able to ride at a lope or canter without holding onto the horn. I have several years of riding experience, but just lack some confidence to ride freely. Although I am very comfortable riding at a walk and a trot.

My problem is this person charges $65/hour and is 1 hour from my home. Which would limit me to only riding on the weekend.

Would like to know approx. how many lessons it would take for someone to get up to the next level of riding.

wow... that is really high... at least for my area it is. How many lessons really depends on you and how you progress....

How calm is your horse? You can do exercises that will help with your balance on the horse. Do you have someone you can work with? I have read Richard Shrake and he has some great exercises that you can do to help with your balance which would help you to sit the lope.

The trainer has experience in reining and has horse that I could eventually ride for a lesson or two on reining. However, I am willing to take the lessons for more experience, but don't want to spend for ever taking them as because I cannot afford to take them for an extended period of time. I do have some money saved up for it though.
