I like to ride 4-5 times a week...it's not been feasable lately, as it is normally dark by the time I get off of work...but I still try to do some ground work to keep us both 'fresh'.
I think as far as "ideal" riding time/per week, in order to really improve, 4 times a week is good, 5-6 times is best...30 minutes is sufficient, and if you can handle it, or as you get better, 1 hr is really good. If you can't get out there that often, try to exercise some through out the week; pilates is really good for maintaining flexibility and adding strength.
