Hmmmm....this all sounds like a foreign situation to me but maybe we just do it differently in Australia...

Have you considered moving to another facility?

In my opinion, competing with your horse doesnt always have to be about winning. At some point, today, next month or next year you are going to take your horse to a show. And you must walk before you run..whats wrong with going just for the 'experience'.

I took my new horse to a dressage school today after only 3 rides off the track (ex-racehorse) and even though all the other hacks were lovely and my horse looked a little out of place, how will he and 'us' as a team ever improve if we never try.

I say move your horse if you can to somewhere where your coach is encouraging and suppportive of your dreams and desires, as well as monitoring your abilities...

Good luck!

You also must remember that being in a show is completely different to training/schooling in your horses home environment. Have you ever taken your horse out before, to a different barn or something along those lines or worked your horse with many different horses? Because horses can get very excited being in new environments or accompanied by other horses they haven't met before, there are also many new smells, noises, ect that your horse may have never come across before.

So your trainer may have a very good reason for not recommending you show your horse this year. But in the long run it is your horse meaning the over all choice is that you can choose if you show or not.

But, be careful about the way you approach your trainer with this situation.

She may not want you to show because it is expensive. You said you could do a simple w/t class because you can't canter really well yet. She may not want you to waste your money on a little class. I didn't get to show until I could to full jump courses. I did one flat show, itt was very cheap and local. Or maybe she doesnt think you're ready. Talk to your trainer about it, and ask her if you can go to a show in the spring/summer. Hope I helped!:)

Strangest thing I have ever heard. Putting them in stalls to make them loose weight?

So you are old enough to be an adult just not old enough to act like one.

Talk to your trainer like an adult. Why get yourself all upset and insult people left and right when you have no facts at all.

Maybe your trainer does not even know you want more lessons and to ride in a show?
