I fell...HARD

All was great today. I saddled up my ride and we went to warm up before we did some cross rails and small jumps. She did really well! I then decided to show my mom my half seat at a canter as I was told I had it down...well I went in the back of the pasture and jumped a log. Gidget had her ears up and was eager to run but I made her wait so we trotted and then I asked for a canter. I yelled out for my mom to watch so she was watching and Gidget hit a sticker bush(those kind with the purple flower on it) got her legs. She jumped sideways with her legs out(apparently it wasn't a buck but she was trying to get away from what ever was attacking her). I was doing great. I knew I was going to stay on.I spoke to soon as I fell and landed HARD!...hurt my elbow, back, and shoulder. I was wearing my helmet, thank goodness.

I got back on and went cantering and did some more jumps but it just TOTALLY kills what confidence I have.

It was a "freak accident," I wouldn't let it bring you down too much. I'm sorry you landed so hard though, that's never fun. Some tylenol, a hot bath, and a good book are a good cure for that though. =]

I took some pain reliever so hope that helps. I'm really happy to know I didn't break my arm like I thought I did. Gidget ran to the water tank to drink and we went back and tried it again and we did well. I was wondering if she did it out of being mean but apparently she was all happy to run around. We are chopping down the sticker plants tomorrow and I will try it again.

Agree with Ricci, that's no reason to let your confidence down. Shoot, freak falls happen to the best riders and sometimes you just can't help it. I think fate or God or whatever other power might be out there just makes sure we fall occasionally to keep us humble. Sorry it was a hard fall, those suck, but I'm glad you weren't injured beyond a few bruises (to body and pride).

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Just a head's up about those sticker plants..... You want to completely tear those things out of the ground, because they grow back in weeks. We have hundreds, and we spent all last week pulling them out, but it's worth it to not have to get those stickers off the horses! Hope you feel better!

Woke up this morning and my elbow is swollen and blue/green. My body doesn't hurt much at all =D yay!

We will have to dig out those pesky things! They are the devil.

Thank you everyone. I woke up feeling better about it and I'm looking forward to hopping back on and doing it again without the sticker bushes ;)

Well if it killed your confidence, don't get back on, even if everyone says ' don't be a wimp, get back on or the horse will think his boss' but the horse will feel that your scared and be scared too. So its safer to wait untill your confidence is back!

Arnica will help with the bruising. When I fell & hit my head, I didn't know about the arnica & the bruise lasted forever (it seemed...more like 3-4 weeks).
Last week I was bitten & put arnica on it immediately & every day since & the bruise is almost gone in 1 week. You should be able to find it in a "natural" type grocery store (Henry's, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, etc..)
Glad you got back up. I know people who have fallen & won't ever get back on. :(

I disagree whole heartily. As long as you are in good shape, the longer you wait, the harder it will be. You will find reasons not to get back up. You need to face the fear even if it is only in an arena for a time. Confidence doesn't come back simply over time, it comes back by overcoming the cause of your fear.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

It's not always what you say but what they hear.
