I hit a huge milestone yesterday!

This may sound minuscule to most, but I achieved a huge milestone in my riding yesterday- I CANTERED!!

It's been 2 years since i've cantered after a few bad experiences. The last one resulting in me being thrown and seeing a chiropractor. I tried on a lunge line about a year ago and ended up hanging off the mare's neck, laughing hysterically. I'm just been too scared.

My fiance came out to capture some shots of Aidan and I and refused to take more pictures until after I tried cantering. He pushed me and as nervous as I was, I knew Aidan has a nice smooth canter.

    Here's our ride!

I think that was the push I needed to at least get a few strides in every ride.

    Congratulations!

Not miniscule to me. I haven't gotten over a trot in many, many years.

I can relate to that. I came off my friend's horse, at the canter, a year ago and really banged up my pelvis (still hurts sometimes). It took me months before I was willing to canter that horse again, and I am still anxious about cantering anyone but Mac. (whose canter is a dream!)

It's odd that we get so worried about the canter, when it's usually easier to ride than the trot. But it sure can be intimidating.

Great achievement, I also need to get to this milestone :) now you just need to keep practising, when ever and where ever you can. Good Luck.

It isn't a minuscule, it's a great thing to accomplish - especially after having bad experiences. Good luck with the rest of your riding! (:

AWESOME! I came off a canter 10+ years ago, and I still haven't worked up the courage to try it again. I have a 16 year old ex-racer turned broodmare turned pasture pet that I'm reconditioning (or will be, come Friday) and I should be ready for a canter by the time she's fit and able.

    Thumbs up to you!

Aww yay! I'm so glad others see the achievement I felt! My lesson is getting rained out tomorrow but I'm planning to get back on Thursday and repeat.

CONGRATULATIONS, have a pair of cantering is a HUGE deal, I'm still struggling with it. I am going to have to get brave like you and just do it though.

Why thank you! And it sure is hard. I've wanted to canter for the whole two years but always tensed up and chickened out.

You are doing better than I am! I've been terrified to try to canter Dancer. It almost makes me glad that when I think I'm asking for a canter, she just breaks into a really wierd gait. It's really easy to ride, and not nearly as scary as a canter!
